“I’m sinking in a pit of doom!”
One day my four year old was strolling her baby doll across the living room and she started to holler, “Help! Help! I’m sinking!” I told her “Jump! Quick!” When she escaped I asked her if she was sinking in quicksand. Her reply wad NO. So of course I asked, “Well, what were you sinking in?” “DOOM!” (Her and Daddy like the ‘doom on you’ part in Ice Age.)
And then it clicked. YES- that’s exactly how many of us feel when caught in a ‘sticky situation’. Like we are doomed.
The one thing kids have on us is they ‘jump, quick’ when they start sinking. As adults we stand there dumbfounded. We go through all the questions…..what happened? How did I get here? Who’s fault is this? Where do I go now? How do I get out of this? And when we don’t find all the answers we stay put and waste more time not knowing what to do.
The lesson my four year old so playfully reminded me of was this: WHEN STUCK- TAKE ACTION! Just start moving, jumping, running before you sink deeper in your pit of doom. Don’t just stand there helpless and confused, DO SOMETHING.
Mantras:
Jump,Quick
Take action
